A bear attacked a local runner Sunday, Dumb Runner has learned, severely wounding him in a mean-spirited and intensely personal Facebook comment.

The runner, Jeremy Allen White, 38, was in his kitchen when the attack occurred, according to a source with direct knowledge of the matter.

“He’d just gotten back from long a trail run, and was having a snack and posting a photo from the run on his Facebook page,” said the source, who requested anonymity out of fear that the bear would attack them next. “Then he reads this weird comment on the post and is just, like, stricken.”

Dumb Runner has obtained a screen grab of the comment in question, shown below. [CONTENT WARNING: It is extremely hurtful.]

The attack came out of nowhere, the source said.

“One minute, [Jeremy’s] standing there sipping a smoothie, and the next he’s seriously hurt,” they said. “It was scary; it all happened so fast.”

“This should be a warning to all runners out there,” they added. “When you’re on social media, be hyper-aware. Most comments are fine, but it only takes one bad one to really wound you.”

White is in stable condition and is expected to fully recover; he did not respond to Dumb Runner’s request for an interview.

Reached for comment, the bear said, “Rarr.”
