Gnat Begins Journey Through Local Runner’s GI Tract

An airborne fungus gnat has embarked on a mystical journey through a local runner’s gastrointestinal tract, Dumb Runner has learned—a trip that began when it unintentionally entered the man’s mouth.

Seth Brundle, 34, was running on a trail when he inhaled the small flying insect, sources said; several attempts to spit it out were unsuccessful.

“That gnat was totally in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said David Cronenberg, a fellow runner who was with Brundle at the time. “Seth had no time to react, apart from saying, ‘Eww’ and making a joke about getting some extra protein.”

Brundle finished his run as planned, the source said, as the gnat kick off an hours-long tour of the avid runner’s digestive system.

That journey would involve a quick look at Brundle’s mouth and throat before continuing through his esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

“When you look at it that way, it’s actually pretty cool for the gnat,” Cronenberg said. “Except for the anus part, I guess.”

“And the fact that the gnat will be dead for most of it, if is isn’t already,” he added.

“Anyway, we had a pretty good run.”
