Illustration Depicts Magical World Where Drivers Stop at Crosswalks

A colorful illustration portrays a bright and cheerful fantasy land where residents can cross the street at their leisure while motorists yield to them, Dumb Runner has learned.

The image, available for sale on stock image website Depositphotos.com, shows two reasonably sized cars stopped behind—not on—a wide, cleanly striped crosswalk; as they wait, five adults and three small children amble across the intersection, apparently relaxed and unhurried.

None are turning their heads to glare at a driver or making rude gestures in the cars’ direction, suggesting that both drivers are simply waiting patiently, and quietly, for them to cross.

Several real-life pedestrians, including runners, contacted for comment on the illustration expressed wonderment.

“Man, that place looks nice,” said Hamilton Leithauser, a regular walker and avid runner. “Look at those people, just walking across the street, totally chill. And the drivers are all, like, No no, take your time, it’s all good.

“Incredible.”

Another pedestrian noted the size of the vehicles themselves.

“What manner of magical world is this, where people drive normal-sized cars instead of enormous, bloated trucks with 5-foot-high grills and side mirrors the size of cafeteria trays?” said Peter Matthew Bauer. “And how do I transport myself there?”

Multiple attempts to reach the subjects of the illustration for comment were unsuccessful, likely because they don’t have faces.
