A local runner today expressed his irritation with Wordle, calling tweets about the popular online game “annoying.”

In Wordle, players have six attempts to guess a five-letter word represented by five blank tiles; with each guess, the colors of the tiles change to indicate correct or incorrect letters. Players often share the final grid via social media to show off their prowess.

“I am so sick of seeing these [tweets], said David Crosby, 34, a frequent Twitter user and veteran of four marathons. “I mean, who cares about the results of your little puzzle?”

Moments later, Crosby shared his own tweet, describing in detail a run he’d just completed.

“Brutal speed session [weary face emoji] incl 8x400 @ 1:28 followed by 1 mile 5K race pace, YTD 64 miles,” he wrote. “#running #intervals #efforts #fitness #strava #garmin.”

A graphic accompanying the tweet showed Crosby’s Strava data from the run, including the route, distance, pace, elevation gain, and more. According to a review of Crosby’s social media history, the tweet marked the 100th time he has shared Strava data via Twitter.

It was unclear at the time of publication whether Crosby was aware of the milestone, and, if so, whether he planned to tweet about it.
