A journalist writing about an upcoming local marathon is stuck just a few sentences into the article, Dumb Runner has learned, torn between describing runners as “hitting the streets” or “pounding the pavement.”

“They’re both such fresh, compelling phrases,” said Hildy Johnson, 32, a general assignment reporter for The Howard County Hawk. “They both paint a real picture for the reader.”

“I just don’t know.”

The race in question, the Lewis Milestone Marathon, is scheduled for this Sunday, when 6,000 runners will lace up their sneakers and toe the line.
