Runner’s Holiday Letter Just a Bunch of Strava Charts

A local runner’s annual holiday letter consists almost entirely of charts and graphs from his Strava account, Dumb Runner has learned, puzzling its recipients.

Brent Spiner, 32, mailed copies of his letter last week, along with a nondenominational card featuring a snowy mountain scene and the words PEACE, LOVE, JOY. The letter itself, printed on 8.5x11-inch “holiday sweater” stationery, leads with the words “Holiday Greetings,” followed by four charts and graphs from Spiner’s account on the popular fitness tracking platform Strava.

Several people who got Spiner’s letter were unsure how to interpret it.

“We don’t stay in touch with Brent much through the year,” said Kate Mulgrew, a college friend of Spiner. “So his holiday letter is really the one chance we have to hear what he’s been up to, you know, how things are going.”

“But this…” she said, motioning to the letter. “I mean, what even is this?”

Reached by email for comment, Spiner replied only with the word kudos.
