In a gesture of selflessness, a local runner this morning shared his music with dozens of others, Dumb Runner has learned.

Edward W. Kellogg, 25, was running on a popular waterfront path as he played the music, streaming it from his phone to a small, clip-on Bluetooth speaker. Kellogg’s decision to forgo headphones or earbuds meant that he broadcast his tunes indiscriminately to everyone within a 30-foot radius.

“I really love music, especially when I’m running,” said Kellogg. “I’m also a very sensitive, generous person. That’s why I use a speaker to play my music—so I can share it with the world.”

His generosity extends beyond running, Kellogg said, noting that he turns his music “up to 11” at home in his 1-bedroom apartment and drives with his windows down whenever possible, so everyone can hear his car stereo.

It’s while running, though, that Kellogg especially enjoys sharing his music—whatever the style.

“I have pretty eclectic tastes, so when I run I could be blaring anything from K-pop to dubstep to death metal. One time I even put ‘Baby Shark’ on repeat and listened to that for an entire 5-mile run. You should have seen the looks on everyone’s faces. It was so much fun.”

Kellogg said his songs seem to motivate others, noting, “Every time I get near another runner, they immediately take off.”

“It’s really gratifying.”
