Trump Blasts U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials as ‘Politically Motivated’

Former President Donald Trump this week described the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, happening this Saturday in Orlando, Florida, as “a total scam” and “another politically motivated witch hunt” and vowed to defy any verdicts against him.
The Olympic Marathon Trials helps determine who will represent the country in the Olympic Marathon, in this case at the 2024 Games in Paris; Trump, who is facing 91 felony counts among a long list of civil and criminal charges, appeared to take the word trials to mean a judicial proceeding.
“The U.S. department of injustice strikes again,” Trump told supporters in Las Vegas, “now with the Marathon Trials—that’s the name, Marathon, which is a long time, very long, the length of which the world has never seen—and I don’t know what they’re charging Trump with this time, they’ll throw anything at me that they can, believe me, and by the way, when they throw those at me they’re throwing them at you, folks, they’re shoving them right on you, this is what they don’t want you to know, but I will tell you this: I will fight these charges every step of the way, because I’m a fighter, OK? And I fight not for Trump but for you, for my beautiful patriots.”
“The judge [at the Olympic Marathon Trials] is totally corrupt, by the way,” Trump added. “He hates Trump.”
The remarks were just part of a nearly hourlong speech that also included references to foreign insane asylums, low-flow showerheads, $840-per-gallon gas, Jesus, summary executions, the McDonald’s Dollar Menu, a fly that kept landing on his water glass, and the Angel of Death.
“And did you notice, it’s not a trial, not one trial, it’s trials—plural, the word plural, amazing word, means more than one, often many more, by the way, they love to say ‘many, many more’—it’s a lot of trials, I’m sad to say, and they’re all fake, all completely made up,” Trump said. “Hamburger.”
Reached for comment, the Trump campaign denied that Trump has ever been in Las Vegas.
The 2024 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials will air live Saturday on Peacock, beginning at 10 a.m. Eastern.
