A local jogger traumatized by finding a dead body got some helpful perspective during a recent therapy session, Dumb Runner has learned, when a psychologist reminded her that most humans she encounters day to day, “overwhelmingly,” are alive and well.

The jogger, Haley Osment, 39, found the body last weekend during a short run in a public park, an event that has left her anxious, depressed, and unable to sleep. Soon after, she made an appointment with a therapist.

That therapist, Malcolm Crowe, Ph.D., reportedly spent the bulk of Osment’s first session trying to shift the focus from “this one dead guy” to the rest of the people Osment sees every day, whether she’s jogging or not.

“I’m a ‘glass half full’ sort of a therapist,” Crowe told Dumb Runner in a phone interview. “I figure, Why dwell on an isolated incident? This rotting corpse represents maybe 0.00002% of all the humans [Osment] has encountered or will encounter during her life.”

“It’s easy to lose perspective when things like this happen,” Crowe said. “My job, as a therapist, is to help bring that perspective back.”

Osment could not be reached for comment.
