‘Mommy Is a Better Parent When She Has a Chance to Go Running,’ Woman Tells Children in Thinly Veiled Threat
/A local woman told her two young children this week that she is a “better parent” on days when she’s able to get out for a run, Dumb Runner has learned, strongly implying that she’s a worse parent on the days she’s unable to log a few miles.
The woman, identified as Tatiana Maslany, 37, made the veiled threat Tuesday morning while explaining to her four-year-old daughter and two-year-old son why she couldn’t play “store” with them.
“Mommy has to go for a run,” Maslany said, an excuse that prompted her daughter to protest that her mother is “always going for a run.”
“Well, running makes me a better mommy,” Maslany replied. “So when I have a chance to go for a run, it’s good for you and your brother, too.”
The flip side of that statement, which was left unsaid, was that Maslany’s parenting would be second-rate, or worse, if she did not go for a run. The consequences of that was left to the children’s imaginations.
Sources said that Maslany logged a six-mile run shortly after delivering her threat, pausing on the way out the door to remind her husband that she is a “better wife” when she’s able to go for a run.
