A three-month-old ignited an online firestorm Tuesday when his mother shared a photo of the boy wearing a bodysuit with the 2022 Boston Marathon logo, leaving the child in tears and causing his mother to delete her social media accounts.

The infant, whose name Dumb Runner is withholding due to his age, reportedly was surprised by the backlash, which was swift and intense.

“What the hell is this?” read one of the early comments on Instagram, where the photo first appeared. “I highly doubt this kid ran Boston this year.”

“An insult to Boston Marathon finishers everywhere,” read another. “Running Boston requires months or even years of dedication, struggle, and hard work. You don’t just pick up a [Boston Marathon] shirt one day and decide to wear it.”

The child’s mother soon deleted the post, but not before others had taken a screenshot and shared it via Twitter, where it quickly went viral.

“I don’t think this kid even knows what Boston is,” wrote one Twitter user. “He deserves every nasty comment he gets.”

Within an hour, a group of runners had launched an online petition demanding that the Boston Athletic Association bar the boy from the Boston Marathon for life. As of early this morning, it had 11,540 signatures.

Reached for comment, the baby gurgled.
