A jogger suffered a fatal heart attack at a local track this morning, Dumb Runner has learned, blocking the track’s innermost lane and forcing other runners to go around him. Sources described the incident as one final act of rudeness from a man who had spent the morning flouting track etiquette.

Terry Kiser, 39, had been using the track at Lomax High School—running in the wrong direction, sources said, and frequently spitting—for about 20 minutes before grimacing, stumbling, and collapsing in lane one.

“Actually, it was worse than that,” said Andrew McCarthy, a witness. “He had one arm sprawled out to the side, basically blocking lane two as well.”

McCarthy noted that Kiser had been using lane one before his collapse, as well, despite being told several times that walkers and slower runners should use lanes four, five, and six. It is unclear whether Kiser heard the advice, as he was wearing earbuds.

“I don’t know if this guy didn’t know the rules of the track or just didn’t care,” said McCarthy, who was doing a speed workout at the time. “Either way, it was rude.”

Kiser’s dog, Bernie, who had been running off leash with Kiser, stayed nearby as paramedics performed CPR.

Dogs are prohibited at the track.
