A local runner savored a glass of greenish-yellow sports drink recently, Dumb Runner has learned, swirling the sports drink in his glass before inhaling its aroma and taking a sip.

Miles Raymond, 48, poured himself the beverage last night, sources said, opening a 2021 Gatorade that he’d been saving.

“Mmm,” said Raymond, a self-described sports drink connoisseur, plunging his nose deep into the glass. “I smell gooseberry and flint and … crème brûlée?”

He swirled the drink and took another deep sniff.

“Also, notes of lemon and lime.”

Raymond took a mouthful of the Gatorade, holding it for a few moments before swallowing and smacking his lips.

“Fruit-forward, bold, and very sweet, but with a hint of tartness,” he said. “And a smooth, round finish.”

“What a playful little quaff,” he added.

Reached for comment later, Raymond told Dumb Runner he has an estimated 350 bottles of sports drink in his climate-controlled cellar from at least a dozen labels, including Powerade, All Sport, Pocari Sweat, and an ultra-rare 2006 Mizone Sports Water.

Asked what he was celebrating, Raymond told Dumb Runner, “Opening a bottle of 2021 Gatorade is a celebration.”
