A local runner consumed an energy bar nearly an hour ago yet has no energy, Dumb Runner has learned.

Mary Costa, 24, ate the product, a Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter KIND Energy bar, shortly after waking up, a source said. Costa reportedly had slept poorly and was feeling groggy.

According to KIND, its Energy bars are “made with 100% whole grains for sustained energy.”

Within 30 minutes, the source said, Costa was dressed for a run but still yawning. A jog to a nearby track failed to perk her up, the source said, and after two shuffling laps in an outer lane she remained sluggish and unmotivated.

It is unclear why the energy bar failed to deliver energy—its one and only job.

“Maybe it’s defective,” the source said. “Personally, I think Mary should contact the company and get her money back.”

“Then again, maybe she should have eaten a second one.”
