Hormel Foods Corporation, the producer of dozens of branded meat products and other packaged foods, today announced a new line of “sports hams” aimed at active, health-conscious consumers.

The product line, called Hormel Endurance®, will comprise electrolyte-infused hams in a variety of options, including bone-in, boneless, spiral-cut, smoked, and carb-glazed. Prices will start at $6.99 per pound.

“For nearly 130 years, Hormel has stood for quality, convenience, and top-shelf taste,” said John Arable, a company spokesman, announcing the launch in a call with reporters. “Today we are proud to add to our already impressive portfolio Hormel Endurance®—the first fully cooked hams prepared with the energy needs of today’s endurance athlete in mind.”

Arable called the new sports hams “the perfect snack for runners, cyclists, and other on-the-go types.” Each serving delivers 220 calories, 3 grams of carbs, 9 grams of protein, and “a full day’s worth of sodium,” he said.

Hormel Endurance® hams will be available nationwide at supermarkets and any specialty running stores that happen to have refrigerated cases.
