American Runner Bound for Canada Happy About Favorable Mile/Kilometer Exchange Rate

An American runner en route to Canada is looking forward to his time there, Dumb Runner has learned, largely due to an exchange rate that heavily favors the mile over the kilometer.

John Cabot, 28, said he intends to spend five days in Montreal and will take full advantage of the favorable exchange rate while he’s there.

“I’m stoked,” Cabot told Dumb Runner in a phone interview from the airport as he waited to board his flight. “The mile is super strong right now, so I’m gonna get in as many runs as I can while I’m there.”

Cabot, who said he had packed gear for road and trail runs, added that he plans to run at least once a day during his trip—more, if his schedule allows.

“The last time I was [in Canada], the exchange rate was terrible—the mile was very weak—and so, as a runner, I really took a beating,” he said. “So this trip will help balance that out.”

Meanwhile, travelers from Canada and other nations that use the metric system are canceling plans to visit the United States.

“They must all be runners, too,” Cabot said, laughing. “I can’t imagine why else they would avoid the U.S.”
