A Boston Marathon runner is wasting precious time as he lingers near Wellesley College, waiting for a student in that school’s famous Scream Tunnel to “make the first move” and lean in for a kiss, Dumb Runner has learned.

Wellesley College is around the marathon’s halfway point; the Scream Tunnel, a longtime marathon tradition, consists of hundreds of Wellesley students whose cheers can be heard well before runners reach the college. Runners sometimes share high-fives, take selfies, and occasionally pause for a kiss with students.

The unidentified runner, a male in his twenties or early thirties, has been lingering at the Scream Tunnel for at least 10 minutes, sources said, rubbing the back of his neck and glancing at a nearby student.

“He’s been, like, untying and retying his shoes and stretching and stuff,” said the source, “but also trying to make eye contact with this certain person, smiling at her and stuff.”

“Meanwhile, about 300 runners have passed by him,” the source added. “I don’t know if this guy has a time goal today, but if he does, he’s really blowing it.”

At last report, the runner was seen scuffing his shoe on the ground and blushing.
