‘Running Keeps Me Young,’ Says Chronically Injured Man Who’s in Bed Every Night by 8:45

A local man is describing his decades-long running habit as a sort of fountain of youth, Dumb Runner has learned—in apparent contradiction to his own lifestyle.

Steve Perry, 56, has made the claim several times over the years, sources said, most recently at a gathering with friends Sunday afternoon, where he said that “running keeps (him) young.”

The statement is at odds with the fact that Perry bears the usual hallmarks of aging, including frequent injuries and other ailments, early bedtimes, and less energy and vigor overall.

“Steve loves to run, which is great—I mean, good for him—but he seems to think running is a magical elixir or something, which it clearly isn’t,” said one source, who requested anonymity. “At least not in his case.”

Asked to elaborate, the source said that Perry is often hurt, usually with a hamstring or Achilles tendon injury, and that even when he isn’t, “he moves pretty slow.”

“Lots of aches and pains and, you know, groaning when he has to bend over or get up off the ground or something,” the source said.

In addition, Perry’s bedtime is “weirdly early.”

“Dude is in bed by 8:45 every night,” the source said. “8:45!”

“I mean, even my grandparents stayed up later than that.”

Reached for comment by phone, Perry complained that Dumb Runner had woken him from his daily nap.
