Local Runner and Star Trek Enthusiast Can't Believe How Hard It Is to Find a Simple Marathon Training Plan for Speakers of Klingon

A local runner said today he’s “incredibly frustrated” that he can’t find a marathon training plan translated for speakers of Klingon.

“It makes me want to jach,” said Jeff Albertson, 42, using the Klingon word for scream.

Albertson, a seven-time marathon finisher, is a devoted fan of Star Trek; in that science-fiction franchise, the Klingons are “swarthy humanoids characterized by prideful ruthlessness and brutality.” The fictional language they speak has led to Klingon versions of the Bible and works of Shakespeare, among other texts.

“I mean, you can find training plans in just about every known language,” Albertson said. “Dutch, Portuguese, German, Japanese, probably even Swahili; you name it.”

“But Klingon? The most popular fictional language in the world, by the way?” he added. “Nada.”

“It’s neb buy',” he said. “If you’ll pardon my language.”

Asked why he didn’t create his own Klingon language training plans, Albertson said he’d thought of that but didn’t have the time.

“Between my gaming, my Dungeons and Dragons club, and my work with the Renaissance fair planning committee,” he said, “I’m swamped as it is.”

For now, he said, he’ll keep Googling and hoping.
