Two local women running through a residential neighborhood this morning detected the smell of bacon frying, Dumb Runner has learned, prompting an immediate positive reaction from them both.

The runners, Melissa Enjoli, 29, and Christina Rephlan, 27, noticed the aroma midway through a six-mile run, a source said. The scent instantly transformed their moods—and their conversation, according to a transcript obtained by Dumb Runner:

Enjoli (sniffing): “Oh my God.”

Rephlan: “Oh!”

Enjoli: “Do you—”

Rephlan: “Bacon.”

Enjoli: “Someone is totally making bacon.”

Rephlan (singsong voice): “Makin’ bacon, makin’ bacon…”

Enjoli: “I want to eat that bacon.”

Rephlan: “I would eat all that bacon right now.”

Enjoli: “Bacon is so good.”

Rephlan: “Bacon!”

Moments later the two lost the scent and resumed their previous conversation, which revolved around the bakery they had run past earlier in their run.

“Oh my God,” said Rephlan, “that fresh-baked doughnut smell.”

“Doughnuts!” Enjoli said. “Oh my God.”
