A woman at a local gym fought hard this morning not to press a button labeled EJECT on the treadmill she was using, Dumb Runner has learned.

Sandra Denton, 34, said she noticed it almost immediately when she approached the treadmill, noting that the large, red button was “sort of hard to miss.”

As she started her run, Denton said, she tried to focus on things like her pace, the treadmill’s incline, and her playlist. But the button kept drawing her attention.

“I started to wonder, What happens when you push that thing?” she said. “Will the treadmill spring forward, like the front edge is on a hinge, flinging me into the wall? Will the entire belt shoot upward, sending me into the ceiling? Why would you even put an ejection button on a treadmill?”

“Is it all a joke?”

There’s only one way to find out, the woman’s brain reportedly told her, over and over. Push it. Push it real good.

At last report, Denton had not pressed the button. Yet.
