‘Perfect Weather for a Marathon,’ Says Spectator Standing Perfectly Still on Hot, Cloudless Morning

A spectator at a local marathon Sunday declared conditions for the event “perfect,” Dumb Runner has learned, citing the high temperatures and full sun.
“What a gorgeous day,” said Thomas Gray, 49, who is not a runner himself. “Perfect weather for a marathon.”
Gray made the statement around 9:30 a.m., just after joining a crowd of fellow spectators at mile 20 of the course, having walked three minutes to get there from his air-conditioned car. Like his fellow spectators, the non-runner stood perfectly still as he spoke.
“Wow, 78 degrees already,” said Gray, glancing at a weather app on his phone. “And not a cloud in the sky.”
“Can’t ask for better running weather than this,” he added, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead as he stood perfectly still on the shadeless street.
A nearby woman, responding to Gray, agreed with his assessment.
“Lucky they’re having the race today,” said the woman, who also is not a runner. “Yesterday was cloudy and, like, 55 degrees.”
Gray nodded.
“Yeah, they really dodged a bullet there,” he said, smiling and turning his face skyward.
“Man, this sun feels so good on my face.”
