Local Triathlete Nails Transition From Friend to Lover

A local triathlete took a friendship to the next level over the weekend, Dumb Runner has learned, transitioning from platonic companion to lover in a manner that friends called “flawless.”

Harry Burns, 41, an investment banker and three-time Ironman finisher, made the move late Saturday, sources said, at the end of a day spent with Sally Albright, 36, a longtime friend and marketing executive.

Those sources described an outing that started with late-morning kayaking and a light lunch, followed by more than an hour of strolling and window-shopping before ending at Albright’s apartment for wine, dinner, and a movie.

“Sally’s living room is being painted, so they decided to watch [the movie] on her bedroom TV,” said one source. “Like, on her bed.”

“Which is when the transition happened.”

Those close to the couple were impressed with how smoothly Burns made the move—he reportedly shucked off his shirt with one fluid movement, and had a condom ready and waiting in the transition zone—but not surprised that it happened.

“They’ve known each other for years,” said Nora Ephron, a mutual acquaintance and fellow triathlete, “and it’s been clear from the start that they were fond of each other.”

It didn’t hurt that Burns had had years of training, Ephron added.

“Harry’s shift from friend to lover was as smooth as his bike’s electronic rear derailleur,” she said. “The lube probably didn’t hurt, either.”
