Field agents for the watchdog website Marathon Investigation apprehended a local runner at his home early this morning, Dumb Runner has learned.

The runner, identified as Richard Kimble, 38, was taken into custody without a struggle, according to a statement released by Marathon Investigation. Kimble stands accused of using a friend’s bib in the 2021 Los Angeles Marathon, wearing a fake bib at the 2022 Boston Marathon, and multiple counts of cutting the course at other full and half-marathons.

The predawn raid, which was over in minutes, ended with Kimble in handcuffs. Agents afterward were seen leaving his home with several items, including a laptop computer, a smartphone, two running watches, a pair of running shoes, and a Boston Marathon finisher’s jacket.

“We’ve been after this guy for a long time,” Agent Samuel Gerard told Dumb Runner in a phone interview. “He’s been on our most-wanted list for years.”

Until now, Gerard said, Kimble had evaded Marathon Investigation agents with the same tactics he’s alleged to have used during running events—namely, manipulating GPS data, using fake credentials, and borrowing others’ identities.

“At one point,” Gerard added, “he shaved his beard and dyed his hair.”

“The guy was good.”

Kimble is set to appear before a Marathon Investigation panel tomorrow, Gerard said, which will decide his fate. If found guilty, he faces a mandatory minimum of five consecutive days of internet shaming.

For his part, Kimble downplayed the charges.

“It’s just running,” he told agents. “This is fucked up, man.”
