A local man wants nothing for Father’s Day except a handmade card, hugs from his kids, and a pair of Nike Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT% Flyknit Ekiden, Dumb Runner has learned.

John Mulcahy, 38, a longtime runner and father of two young children, made the announcement over the weekend, when his wife asked whether he would like something special for the holiday, which occurs this Sunday, June 19.

“Nah,” Mulcahy replied. “You know me. I’ll be happy with a card—maybe the kids can make one, with crayons?—and some big hugs.”

He paused, then added: “Oh, and that link I texted you earlier? To those Alphaflys? Those would be great. Just in case you want to get me a little something.”

Mulcahy noted that he wears a size 10.5 and that the shoe in question is “not the regular Alphafly NEXT%” but the Alphafly NEXT% Flyknit Ekiden model, with a “special edition colorway [that] draws inspiration from the rising and setting sun during the Ekiden and the awe-inspiring views that accompany this iconic New Year's relay race.”

The shoe, which features a full-length carbon fiber plate, retails for $285.

Reached for comment, Mulcahy said that, as a dad, he likes to “focus on what really matters” and that if his kids really wanted to get a little something for him, too, he could use some new socks.
