Kenyan marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge was pleasantly surprised Sunday to learn that his gold medal from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics also serves as a bottle opener, Dumb Runner has learned.

Kipchoge made the happy discovery at his home, sources said, as he fruitlessly searched his kitchen for a way to open a bottled beverage.

“He was just out of the shower after a long run and about to plop down on his couch and watch a movie,” said a source with direct knowledge of the situation. “Encanto, I think.”

After several moments spent rummaging through drawers, the source said, the two-time Olympic gold medalist glimpsed his medal from the Tokyo Games hanging from a doorknob and “decided to give it a try.”

Turning the medal over, Kipchoge spotted a notch that he had never notice before; when he inserted the cap of his bottle into the notch and pried it up, said the source, “he actually laughed, he was so happy.”

“I never knew these things were also bottle openers,” Kipchoge said. “That’s clever.”
