The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) on Tuesday announced “the fastest and most decorated women’s professional field” for the 2022 Boston Marathon, and television broadcasters immediately predicted it will be “the best women’s field we’ve ever ignored.”

The race, to be held April 18, will boast 12 elite women who have run under 2:23, including Olympic marathon medalists Peres Jepchirchir and Molly Seidel, Paralympic marathon gold medalist Madison de Rozario, and three-time Boston Marathon champion Manuela Schär.

Others include Boston Marathon champions Edna Kiplagat and Des Linden, 2021 London and 2019 New York City Marathon winner Joyciline Jepkosgei, and Sara Hall, the second-fastest American marathoner ever.

The field was hailed as one of the fastest ever assembled for a marathon by fans and running media alike. NBC Sports, which will provide live national coverage of the race, issued a statement reading, in part:

“As the exclusive national television and streaming partner for the Boston Marathon, we at NBC Sports Network are delighted to learn that the 126th running of this iconic race will feature what will very likely be the best women’s field we have ever ignored in our race-day coverage.

“From Olympic medalists to past Boston champions, the 2022 women’s elite field is sure to provide plenty of thrills every step of the way, most of which we will miss as we focus almost entirely on the men’s race.

“Good luck, ladies!”

The remainder of the statement consisted of photos and brief bios of the elite men expected to compete at Boston. Reached for comment, a spokesman for NBC Sports said that the Boston Marathon men’s race will start at 8:37 a.m. ET.
