A local ultra runner is “ultra injured,” Dumb Runner has learned.

Carly Simon, 31, tripped and fell during a 20-mile training run yesterday, breaking her right right foot in two places, spraining both ankles, and hurting her lower back. Doctors said they may be able to remove her cast in eight weeks, but cautioned that Simon will have to be “very cautious” as she resumes walking and then running.

That wait will be tough, said Simon, an avid distance runner who has finished numerous 50K, 50-mile, and 100-mile events—but she’s meeting it head on.

“I’m an ultra runner,” she said. “I’m not interested in small challenges. ‘Go big, or go home,’ that’s my motto. And that applies to injuries as well.”

“Let the half-marathoners deal with shin splints and blisters,” she added. “When I get hurt, I get ultra hurt.”

Asked to rate her pain on a scale of 1 to 10, Simon waved the question aside.

“I haven’t got time for the pain,” she said.
