Runner Who Just Got $55 Tracksmith Hat Not Much Happier Than He Was Before He Got $55 Tracksmith Hat

A local runner was marginally happier upon buying a hat from high-end running brand Tracksmith, Dumb Runner has learned—but that boost, a minor one to begin with, quickly diminished.

Esphyr Slobodkina, 34, an avid runner and three-time marathoner, received the hat yesterday, sources said, after ordering it online late one night last week. The hat, described by Tracksmith as a limited-edition “(v)ersion of our dad hat, using classic, recycled wool fabric,” sells for $55.

“Sometimes you just need to keep things simple,” reads the copy on Tracksmith’s website. “Our autumnal take on the classic baseball hat comes in a double-faced, recycled wool with an adjustable metal closure.”

Slobodkina reportedly felt what a source called a “minor endorphin rush” upon placing his order for the hat, and another rush when the package arrived at his home. Both times, the source said, the rush was short lived.

“It’s sad, because Esphyr has a habit of buying stuff and being all excited about it, then inevitably winding up back where he started, emotion-wise,” said the source, who asked to remain anonymous. “The only difference being, he has less money.”

Reached for comment, Slobodkina told Dumb Runner his new hat was “pretty nice, I guess,” and that he was considering ordering a Tracksmith New England Overshirt ($200) to go with it.

“It’s a really cool-looking shirt,” he said. “And, you know, it’s Tracksmith.”
