In Hilarious April Fool's Prank, Running Shoe Makers Pledge to Move Factories From Asia to U.S.

A group representing some of the world’s top running brands pledged today to move their shoe manufacturing facilities from Asia to the United States, via a tongue-in-cheek news release dated “April 1.”

“Effective immediately, we will shutter our shoe factories in China, Vietnam, and other Asian countries and move production to the United States, providing jobs for Americans and doing our part to strengthen domestic manufacturing,” the statement read.

“Doing so will raise prices, no question, and will likely impact our profit margins,” it continued. “But in the end, we are confident that consumers will adapt by simply buying fewer shoes, which will be better for the environment, anyway. And Americans will get thousands of good-paying jobs right here at home.”

“It’s the right thing to do, all around,” the statement said, “and we should have done it a long time ago.’’

“Not!” the statement concluded.

Reached for comment, a spokesperson for the group laughed and laughed and laughed.
