2025 Boston Marathon Jacket Replaces Unicorn Logo With Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan

The Boston Athletic Association last week unveiled next year’s Boston Marathon “celebration jacket” from Adidas, and runners aren’t entirely on board with the design—a Lucid Blue color scheme that replaces the traditional B.A.A. unicorn logo on the back with a stylized image of Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan’s face.

“What the hell is this?” read one typical comment to the online announcement. “Who the f*** is this guy?”

“Nice enough jacket, I guess,” read another. “But seriously WTF is up with that face on the back.”

Bank of America has been the marathon’s presenting sponsor since 2023, when it signed a 10-year deal with the B.A.A., taking over from the previous longtime sponsor, the insurance company John Hancock. The transition, while giving the B.A.A. a welcome cash infusion, has not been without some bumps; at this year’s race, the appearance of the Bank of America logo on Boston finisher’s medals caused a backlash, as well—a controversy that some runners referenced in reacting to the jacket design.

“This is like the B.O.A. logo on the medals, but worse,” wrote one commenter. “I mean, I’ll still buy the jacket, of course. But jeez.”

The B.A.A. did not explicitly address the switch in its announcement, nor did it explain the phrase printed on the jacket’s sleeve: “CUSTOMIZED CASH REWARDS.”

Repeated calls and emails for comment were not returned.
