Tracksmith Unveils ‘Back When Fat, Slow People Didn’t Run’-Scented Candle

Tracksmith, the New England-based maker of premium running gear and apparel, this week introduced a branded scented candle described as smelling like “that magical time, decades ago, when fat, slow people didn’t run.”

The candle, which Tracksmith called “the perfect gift for the dedicated runner in your life,” retails for $58. According to the official product description on the company’s website, the candle has “notes of lean muscle and BQs” and offers a “soothing olfactory experience akin to standing in the starting corral of a race full of people who can run a sub-16:00 5K.”

The description continues:

“Fill your home with the fragrance of a bygone era—a time when running was the province of men, and even some women, who actually looked and trained like runners—with this unique scented candle.

“Use it as a light source as you write in your leather-bound training journal after a three-hour track workout, or as you prepare a simple meal the night before a long run along a wooded trail. Or just hold your palm directly over the flame, unflinching, thinking about how today’s hobby joggers would never be able to withstand that sort of pain, but you can.”

The candle comes in one color — white.

Reached for comment, a Tracksmith spokesperson told Dumb Runner that its Back When Fat, Slow People Didn’t Run candle, if it proves popular, may spawn other products.

“We’re toying with the idea of a locally crafted bar soap that smells like the Olympic Marathon Trials,” the spokesperson said. “Stay tuned.”
