‘Do You Need a Massage Gun?’ Asks Website That Makes Money Every Time Someone Buys a Massage Gun

An online article examining the merits of “percussive therapy devices,” commonly known as massage guns, has concluded that runners can indeed benefit from the devices, Dumb Runner has learned.
Run Magazine, which published the article, earns a commission when readers click links in its articles and purchase the products found at those links.
The article, titled “Are Massage Guns Really Worth It? Here’s Everything You Need to Know,” mentions eight products, ranging in price from $129 to $649, sales of which will directly profit Run Magazine.
“Recovery is critical,” the piece begins—a broad, unobjectionable premise—without going on to explain what he means by “recovery,” or how the body naturally recovers after hard physical exertion, or why it’s desirable to try to hurry that process along with the aid of a product costing several hundred dollars.
The author then quotes the “Chief Wellness Officer” of a company that manufactures and markets massage guns to explain why runners should buy massage guns, a course of action that will financially benefit not just his company but, again, Run Magazine.
While each runner will have to decide which massage gun to buy, the author writes, “we suggest spending between $200 and $600.”
