A local woman woke early this morning in order to fit in a quick sports injury before starting her work day, Dumb Runner has learned.

Donna Reed, 41, suffered the injury — a mild hamstring pull — around 6:40 a.m., just one mile into a planned four-mile run. After spending a few minutes massaging and stretching the affected area, she walked home, where she showered and dressed for work.

“I’m sort of a night owl, so waking up at 6:00 is pretty rough for me,” Reed said in a phone interview. “But it’s good to get it done early.”

By “it,” Reed, an avid runner, apparently was referring to injuring her hamstring, which remains inflamed and painful to the touch.

“I know myself well enough to know that if I put (injuring myself) off, like till lunchtime or after work or whatever, it probably won’t happen at all,” she said. “But if I do it first thing, before the day gets away from me, I can cross it off my list and stop worrying about it.”

“Life is crazy,” she added. “You have to make time for yourself a priority.”
