A model suffered a heart attack this morning during a photo shoot at a local running track, Dumb Runner has learned, prompting the director of the shoot to abruptly change its theme.

The purpose of the shoot was to collect 20 to 30 photos of a “happy runner” for an online stock photography outlet. The model, Joe Conrad, 32, began showing signs of distress shortly after arriving, sources said.

“He seemed fine at first,” said Walter Kurtz, an art director who was leading the shoot. “Greeted everyone, joked around, did a few easy laps around the track.”

Then, Kurtz said, Conrad stopped and clutched his chest.

“We thought it was another joke,” said Kurtz. “Then he sort of fell to one knee and looked really scared, and I thought, Oh my God, this is the real deal—we need to get this, quick.

Announcing a “change in plans” to his crew, Kurtz urged the photographer to shoot as many angles as she could, telling her the project’s theme had just flipped from “Happy Runner” to “Chest Pain Runner.”

In the end, Kurtz said, they got at least two dozen “awesome shots.”

Conrad was taken to a nearby hospital, he added, where he is in stable condition.

“Luckily,” Kurtz said, “there was an ‘EMT Ambulance’ photo shoot happening just 100 feet away.”
