A local trail runner had a harrowing encounter Sunday with a Nuun brand ambassador—an experience he recorded on a six-minute video that’s gone viral.

David Fincher, 24, said he was about halfway through a seven-mile run when he rounded a bend and saw the brand ambassador, an unidentified woman wearing a Nuun top, carrying a Nuun water bottle, and singing the praises of Nuun, maker of fizzy electrolyte drink tablets.

“It was scary, bro,” said Fincher in a phone interview. “All of a sudden I’m face to face with this creature, and I’m not sure what to do.”

Fincher said he was reluctant to turn and run away, worried that doing so might prompt the brand ambassador to give chase.

“From the looks of it,” he said, “she was faster and stronger than me, so I figured, No way can I outrun this person.

Instead, Fincher said, he stood his ground.

“I just tried to make myself appear as big as possible and shouted, No! No! Go away!” he said. “Meanwhile, I was slowly backing away and being careful not to make eye contact.”

The brand ambassador continued her advance, offering Fincher free samples and promo codes. Eventually, Fincher said, he was able to distract his pursuer by pointing behind her and shouting, “Hey, look! It’s all of your Instagram followers! What are they doing here?”

This appeared to startle the brand ambassador, he said, and he was able to sprint away when she turned around, confused.

Fincher made it back to his car at the trailhead and later uploaded his video of the encounter via social media to YouTube and shared it on social media.

“Scary stuff,” wrote one commenter on Twitter.

“Chilling,” wrote another. “Glad you made it out in one piece.”

“Love Nuun!” said a Twitter user named Nuun4Life. “What’s your fave flavor? Mine’s PassionFruit Blast! #ad”
