Having a baby can feel like a marathon, as any parent will tell you—not just physically exhausting, but mentally and emotionally, as well. And the first few months tend to be especially taxing.

In spite of that, one local man finished an actual marathon last weekend just one week after the birth of his first child—and he says he would do it all over again.

“Having a baby was rough,” said Ren McCormack, 33. “I must have spent 3 hours straight in the hospital, and it was, like, early in the morning, too.”

“It was draining, for sure,” he added. “And it didn’t help that I’d gained at least 20 pounds during the pregnancy.”

Despite all that, McCormack managed to complete the Elmore City (Oklahoma) Marathon last Sunday, finishing in 3 hours 49 minutes 22 seconds.

“It wasn’t easy,” McCormack said. “But I’m so glad I did it.”

“I want to be an inspiration to all dads out there,” he concluded. “Don’t let anything stand in the way between you and your goals.”

McCormack’s wife, who remains in the hospital recovering from complications that arose during delivery, did not return calls for comment.
