Local Runner Wishes Emergency ID Bracelet Had Room for One More Line

A local runner ordering an ID bracelet online faced some hard choices yesterday, Dumb Runner has learned, as he realized there wasn’t room on the small metal plate for all the information he wanted to include.

Kevin Tighe, 46, a longtime runner and stay-at-home dad, placed the order late last night, sources said—after at least an hour of agonizing over what to include on the bracelet’s small metal plate, and what to leave out.

“Why can’t they have one more line?” Tighe said, repeatedly, according to a source who requested anonymity. “Come on!”

In the end, the source said, Tighe included his name along with the number of marathons he’s run (28) followed by his PRs for the marathon, half-marathon, 5K, and mile.

“He wanted to include his 10-mile PR but there just wasn’t room,” the source said. “He grumbled about that.”

Reached for comment, Tighe confirmed that account.

“It’s frustrating,” he said. “I mean, if something happens to me during a run—God forbid—I want the first responders to know all my PRs, not just some of them.”

“Like, if [the bracelet company] just made the lines of text closer together, they could easily fit one more line in there, you know?”

Asked whether he considered including medical information on the bracelet, or the phone number of an emergency contact, Tighe scoffed.

“What for?” he said. “They’ll figure that stuff out sooner or later.”
