Shoes With Wheels a Game Changer for Local Runner

A local runner who bought a new pair of shoes last weekend is hailing them as a “game changer,” Dumb Runner has learned, citing the small wheels attached to the soles.

“Holy moly,” said Gerry Rafferty, 62, a father of three and six-time marathon finisher, describing his experience using the shoes. “These things are amazing.”

Rafferty, who estimated he’s bought more than 60 pairs of running shoes over the decades, said he was wary at first of his latest purchase—but that he quickly got over it.

“Yeah, they looked pretty weird, what with all the wheels and such,” he said. “But they were on sale, so I figured, Why not try ’em out?

From the very first step, said Rafferty, he was sold.

“It didn’t even feel like running,” he said. “More like gliding.”

“I knew right away that these things would be a game changer.”

Just in the week he’s had his new shoes, Rafferty said, he’s broken his own 5K PR three times, without even trying. Now, he said, he’s eyeing his 22-year-old marathon PR.

“I’ve had fast shoes before, but these are next-level,” he said. “I wish I’d found them years ago.”

“Wheeee!” he added.
