Latest Garmin Watch Features Pre-Broken Strap

Garmin’s newest running watch comes with a low-tech twist that it says users will appreciate: a pre-broken strap.
The Garmin Forerunner 86 is believed to be the first watch ever to be sold with a “factory-snapped band,” a flaw that the company is pitching as a feature.
“For years, Garmin wearable customers have had to wonder, When will my strap break? Will it happen today? Tomorrow? During next month’s big race?” according to a Garmin news release. “That uncertainty can take a real toll.”
“With the new Forerunner 86, you will wonder no more—because our trained technicians have broken it for you, in the factory, before it ever makes it to your wrist.”
The broken strap, the news release said, is then “expertly repaired with duct tape,” inspected one final time, packaged, and shipped.
Customers can choose among six colors of duct tape, including High-Viz Orange and Classic Silver.
“No other fitness wearable offers this service,” the news release concluded. “Once again, Garmin is at the forefront of cutting-edge technology designed with you in mind.”
The Forerunner 86, available now, retails for $699.
