Local Runner Adds Insulating Layer of Fat for Long, Cold Winter

A local runner is preparing for winter by gorging himself on high-calorie foods, Dumb Runner has learned, with an eye toward adding a layer of fat to his body.

Dominic DiNapoli, 38, added to that calorie count yesterday with a fast food lunch including two individual apple pies and a dinner consisting mostly of ice cream, sources said. The four-time marathon finisher, who has been a runner for about nine years, appears well on his way to achieving his goal, they added.

“Dominic has never been a super-skinny guy,” said one source close to DiNapoli, who requested anonymity. “I’d describe him as having an ‘athletic’ build.”

“Still, he’s becoming visibly pudgier, for sure.”

DiNapoli spent much of last winter’s runs complaining about the cold, the sources said, and vowing to be better prepared for next winter.

“He kept talking about how much warmer he’d be with a nice, thick layer of blubber,” said one fellow runner. “Like an aquatic mammal.”

Reached by phone, DiNapoli told Dumb Runner that he aims to add at least 15 pounds of insulating fat in the next 30 days.

“It will be a challenge,” DiNapoli said, while ordering a sausage pizza on his laptop. “But I’m a marathon runner, so I’m used to facing challenges.”

“I got this.”
