A car is in stable condition after it was hit by the body of a runner this morning, according to a local news outlet. The collision, which happened in a marked crosswalk, snarled traffic several minutes, inconveniencing dozens of other motorists.

Brian O'Conner, a reporter on the scene, said the crash happened when the runner “came out of nowhere” and “darted into traffic,” smashing into the vehicle, a 2021 Nissan Sentra. The Sentra, badly dented, was taken to a nearby auto body shop.

The car’s driver, Sean Boswell, said the incident left him shaken.

“It’s scary,” he said. “One minute you’re behind the wheel of your multi-ton motor vehicle, going whatever-miles-per-hour, scrolling through Instagram, and the next, your car is hit by a runner.”

“I mean, he darted out in front of me.”

Authorities used the accident to remind pedestrians to use caution whenever they leave their homes.

“Tragedies like this one are entirely preventable,” said Dominic Toretto, a police spokesman. “Walkers, joggers, and cyclists must, at all times, wear neon-colored clothing, flashing LED lights, reflectors, tall warning flags, helmets, shoulder pads, and pillows tied around their torsos with rope.”

“Definitely they should stop darting in front of vehicles, coming out of nowhere.”

“Ideally,” he added, “they should avoid streets and roads and stick to nature trails, or maybe the runways of abandoned airports.”

The vehicle is expected to make a full recovery, Toretto said. No charges have been filed.

The runner, who has not been identified, was unresponsive.
