A local race director has essentially thrown in the towel, Dumb Runner has learned, promoting a virtual race of “any distance,” run “whenever” and “wherever,” with no registration required.

Participants can print a bib number for the race, if they “feel like it,” according to an online ad for the event, which doesn’t appear to have an official name.

A news release obtained by Dumb Runner offers little in the way of detail, and ends abruptly after three terse paragraphs.

“Hey, look, a virtual race,” the news release begins. “Might as well run it.”

“Doesn’t matter when or where,” it continues. “No need to submit any data. Also we don’t have medals or shirts or anything. You can make your own shirt if you want.”

The news release concludes, “Yay, fun.”

A source who requested anonymity confirmed that everyone is tired and who cares anymore.
