‘Totally Jacked’ Kipchoge Reveals New Self on Cover of Runner's World

Kenyan running legend Eliud Kipchoge will appear on the cover of Runner’s World magazine’s summer 2024 issue, Dumb Runner has learned, showing off a surprisingly muscular body developed secretly over a period of months.

“MARATHON MUSCLE,” reads the magazine’s sole cover line. “How Eliud Kipchoge got SHREDDED in just 12 weeks, and you can too!”

The bulky muscles mark a startling change for the 39-year-old Kipchoge, who, like most elite distance runners, had always been extremely lean and trim. The magazine’s accompanying feature-length interview explains how Kipchoge developed his new physique, but never explores why he chose to do so.

“However, it is clear that [Kipchoge] is enjoying his new body,” write the editors. “And who wouldn’t? The man is totally jacked.”

They then describe a scene during the feature’s photo shoot, when Kipchoge clowned for the camera, making his pectoral muscles “dance” up and down and, at another point, flexing his biceps and asking whether anyone wanted tickets to the “gun show.”

Asked whether he was concerned that his newly acquired bulk might affect his marathon performance, including at this summer’s Paris Games, the two-time Olympic gold medalist demurred.

“Maybe it will, and maybe it won’t,” he said. “What I know for sure is that I look totally cut. To me, that counts for a lot.”
