Boston Marathon Finisher’s Medal Won’t Stop Playing Tinny ‘Bank of America’ Jingle

A Boston Marathon runner can’t figure out how to make his finisher’s medal stop playing a tinny, electronic jingle about title sponsor Bank of America, Dumb Runner has learned, sending him to the brink of insanity.

Grover Cleveland, 33, “hasn’t slept a wink” since entering his hotel room after yesterday’s race, sources said, because of the endlessly repeating tune, which apparently is coming from a small speaker on the back of the medal.

“He tried putting a glass over it, stuffing it in a drawer, wrapping it in a blanket… nothing works,” said the source, noting that Cleveland didn’t want to put the medal outside his room for fear of someone taking it.

The source described the song—“if you can call it that”—as a “super low-quality electronic tune, with lyrics about how great Bank of America is, and it’s surprisingly loud, coming from such a small speaker.”

“It’s unbearable, but also weirdly catchy,” the source added. “Which, I guess, is part of what makes it unbearable.”

This isn’t the first medal-related annoyance that Boston runners have encountered this year; the appearance of the Bank of America logo on the medal itself caused a backlash, as well.

“The jingle, which, at least in some cases, you can’t turn off, is sort of adding insult to injury,” the source said.

Reached for comment, Cleveland told Dumb Runner, “Make it stop.”
