Eliud Kipchoge, described by sources as “distracted and flustered” after his disappointing sixth-place finish in Monday’s Boston Marathon, accidentally locked himself out of his Boston vacation rental this morning, Dumb Runner has learned.

The world marathon record holder, who had been the clear favorite to win Monday but faded late in the race, had walked outside the Back Bay property, reportedly rented through Airbnb, around 7:00 a.m., sources said, shutting the door behind him. Attempts to open the door a few moments later were unsuccessful.

“Oh, come on,” Kipchoge said, rattling the doorknob. “Are you serious?”

The back door was also locked tight, sources said, adding to the 38-year-old Kenyan’s exasperation.

“Well that’s just great,” Kipchoge said. “Yeah, this is all I need.”

“Give me a break,” he added, peering through a pane of glass. “I can see my keys. They’re right there.”

It was unclear why Kipchoge had walked outside in the first place.

I live for the moments where I get to challenge the limits,” Kipchoge told a small group of bystanders. “But this is really putting that ethos to the test, man.”

At last report, Kipchoge was complaining that the owner of the home had not responded to several text messages.
