A man seen running Sunday in heavy rain is either a hard-core, committed athlete or “not very bright,” according to local residents who can’t seem to agree.

Several people reported spotting the unidentified man, wearing shorts and a yellow hooded jacket, on streets that were largely deserted due to the weather. A steady rain fell most of the morning, with occasional hail. Temperatures were in the mid-40s.

“I was looking out my window around 10 a.m., with a cup of coffee, when I saw this guy running down the street,” said Ray Babbit, 48. “I said to my wife, ‘Man, that is one tough dude.’”

Moments later, one of Babbit’s neighbors saw the same scene and came to a radically different conclusion.

“I was in the yard, letting our dog pee,” said Dustin Cruise, 55, “and it was awful—cold, windy, wet as hell.”

“All I wanted was to get back inside, quick as possible, and I was fully dressed,” he said. “Then I see this guy out for a jog? In this weather? Wearing shorts?”

“I was, like, Look at this lunatic.”

A third resident who saw the runner offered another take.

“Maybe he’s tough and dumb,” said Valeria Golino, 37. “It’s possible to be both, no?”

The runner was last seen sprinting up a local hill, jogging back down, and then sprinting up again.
