A senior publicist for Nike is at her desk, ready for another awesome week of work, Dumb Runner has learned.

Elizabeth Dole, 39, Nike’s assistant vice president of public relations, arrived at the company’s world headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, around 7:20 a.m., sources said, but sat in her parked car for nearly 20 minutes before exiting the vehicle.

“She appeared to be doing deep breathing exercises or something,” the source said.

Dole paused again before entering the building, closing her eyes and counting to 10. She then walked through the door and into the building’s lobby, smiling wide. The smile remained as Dole greeted colleagues, climbed a staircase to her third-floor office, and refilled her coffee cup in a break room.

“What I love about this job is that there’s always a fresh, new challenge,” she whispered to no one in particular. “One week you might be putting the best possible spin on your employer’s longtime relationship with a coach suspended for doping violations; the next, you might be putting the best possible spin on your employer’s longtime relationship with a coach accused of emotionally abusing female athletes.”

“Or even fielding calls from reporters about your employer’s history of penalizing female athletes for being pregnant,” she added, her eyes glazing over as the coffee she was pouring filled her cup to the brim then trickled over, pooling on the countertop.

“You never know what each day will bring,” she added, barely audible. “So exciting. So very exciting.

At last report, Dole was seated at her desk, eyes closed, pinching the bridge of her nose as she gathered the strength to check her voicemails.
